Nursing Credential: Associates of Science

PROGRAM OBJECTIVE

Upon completion of the Practical Nursing program, graduates will be prepared to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination to achieve licensure as a Practical Nurse. Graduates who have earned a license will be able to seek employment as Practical Nurses in assisted living facilities, hospices, physician offices, and home healthcare.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Practical Nursing program provides students with the knowledge and practical experience to work as a Practical Nurse. The curriculum includes legal and ethical responsibilities, communication and interpersonal skills, administrative and clinical duties, healthcare concepts, emergency procedures including CPR, safety and security procedures, medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, geriatric, pediatric, maternal/newborn nursing, and medical-surgical nursing. Classroom and clinical experiences are incorporated into the curriculum.

CREDENTIAL GRANTED UPON COMPLETION

Upon successful completion of the program, students receive a certificate.

DELIVERY METHOD

Theory Classes – offered on-campus and online (synchronous).
Laboratory Classes – offered through simulation training and at the school campus.
Clinical Classes – offered through simulation training and at designated locations.

PROGRAM LENGTH

This program has a duration of 1,350 hours. Full time students complete the program in 55 weeks.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT FOR EMPLOYMENT

Riggs College graduates of this program are required to pass the NCLEX-PN state certification exam, obtain and maintain an active Florida LPN license to accept employment as a Licensed Practical Nurse. EXTERNSHIP POLICY

Riggs College students must complete all clinical hours satisfactorily. The complete Externship Policy is included as a section in this catalog and reviewed with each student prior to enrollment.

PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY INSURANCE
