Meet our Faculty and Administration!
Meet Dr. Telva Miller!
- Dean of Riggs College of Allied Health
Dr. Telva Miller who took what could have been an opportunity to just give up and used it to fuel her passion for educating today’s nurses. Realizing that being a nurse was her dream, Dr. Miller started her educational journey at Bethune Cookman University, eventually transferring to Florida A &M University’s nursing program. Not meeting all of their requirements, she returned home. Not willing to give up on her dream, she enrolled in Valencia Community college where she eventually graduated receiving an Associate Degree in Nursing.
Dr. Miller went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and three years later she received a Master’s Degree in Nursing. After failing the nursing state exam known as the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Examination) exam and eventually passing the exam, she developed a passion to assist others. Dr. Miller later started Millers Nursing Review. The program was written and started in her home. This course later became the first Florida Board of Nursing approved Remediation/Refresher program established in the Central Florida area.
After ten years of preparing nurses for the state board exam and license reinstatement, Dr. Miller realized there appeared to be a huge knowledge gap in what nurses should have learned versus what they actually knew. After receiving a prompting from God, she started the first private Bachelor of Science Degree in nursing program in Osceola county. Her determination and commitment to establish a quality institution pushed her to return to graduate school in October 2010 to earn a Doctorate in Education (Ed. D) which she completed in January 2014. She has successfully published her first article titled “Hiring Nurses Re-entering the Workforce after Chemical Dependence in the Journal of Nursing Education and Practice publication.
After approximately ten years of operating Millers College, Dr. Miller has since closed that chapter and has now transitioned as the Dr. Dean of Academics for Riggs College of Allied Health. She has also just published and released a book titled “Knowing the Real God”. The size of her faith continues to prove how big our God really is.
